Driving lights installation costs

I called a few MINI dealers to get the cost of driving lights plus installation. The prices were all over the map:
- Downtown MINI Orlando, FL: $600
- Lauderdale MINI, Ft. Lauderdale, FL: $800
- Tom Bush, Jax, FL: $660
- Braman MINI, West Palm Beach, FL: $895
- Braman MINI, Miami: $1,195

As $400 of this is parts, we have labor charges from $200 to $995!

Anyone have other quotes to add to this list? It is useful information when getting a quote from a dealer. What have dealers been telling you about how many hours the installation takes?

Light installation cost

I'm getting my car at Westchester MINI in Elmsford, NY. I'm gladly paying $700 for the lights with installation.

Apparently it's a tricky installation. Plus, they sold me the car at list without any mandatory add-ons. I'm glad to give them every bit of extra business I can.

$668.50, installed, although I was told a few days ago that there will be an additional charge of $20 for additional hood stiffening MINI has decided is needed (the lights mount to the hood, not the bumper???)

I think Helix MINISports is doing a cheaper kit. Saw it at the Don Rosen's grand opening party.

I have called several of the aftermarket suppliers. They didn't have final prices when I spoke to them but they expected them to be in the region of $250 compared with the $400 for the MINI lights. I prefer the all chrome lights from MINI so I am willing to pay the extra $150.

It is the installation costs that are killing me and I started to call around when Braman in Miami quoted be their extreme $1,195 price. Knowing it is twice the cost of some other dealers and 33% more than their own dealership in West Palm Beach gives me a reason to tell them they are being nuts.

Here in Illinois the 3 dealers here charge $999.00 lights + installation.

Ok, where do I start - let me first say that I am offering an alternative to the dealer by saying that you do not need to go to the dealer to have these lights installed.

If you want your lights installed into your factory wiring harness so that they work in tandem on your high and low beams, then this might be a good way to go, albiet a bit expensive (!)

You can install these with some education and you can have a seperate switch to operate them.

Also, as I have mentioned before, some states/regions require that you to have your lights work in tendem with your hi-low beams.

Quite frankly, it is very easy to do yourself - if you know what you are doing and you can save yourself over $600 in labor.

All you cost covers is the lamps, wire, a switch and any relays or fuses required.

When we install driving lamps on Miata's, we always use an aftermarket kit or we build our own.

I posted this on another forum, and someone pointed out that should you not go the dealer way that you will end up with a shoddy job (or the way I described). Aside from this person's uneducated comments, I can simply say that you can do it yourself very easily.

No one is making you have the dealer install them when you buy them, right? As soon as I take posession of my Mini, I will put instructions online asap.

Just food for thought.

If you go the self-install route, Karmuse posted a link to a nifty accessory that would allow a switch-less install that uses your high-beam flash-to-pass feature. Hold it for a second, and they go on. Does not affect the flash to pass feature, nor turning your high beams on.

It doesn't require the wiring of an extra switch apparently, which would leave your MINI dashboard intact. I didn't read up on it so I am not sure if it would work.

I still think the best alternative is to use the spare slot on the existing switchpak though.

I'd like to see a set of lights, in chrome, set a little lower in the grill (centered?) and not sticking above the top of the grill.
