clear third brake light, how do you fit the damn thing!!!!

hi everyone serious quick help is needed, ive just bought some of the clear rear lights for my mini cooper, the lights themselves were quite easy to install and thought i was on for a winner until it came to fitting the third brake light. ive got a stock spoiler fitted, not the aero kit one and when trying to pull the light out it stops it from doing so there just isnt enough room to pull the damn light out. can anyone help, would be most greatful. thanks ben

i apologis if this link already existsif so could someone please point me in the right direction, thanks again.

Hiya,

In order to fit the clear third brake light, you need to open the boot and undo the hex screws that are holing the existing light on. I can't remember how many of these there are, but it's fairly straightforward. The old light now is able to be pushed out (it may be a little difficult as there is a foam backing to the light). Then, unclip the wire connector which fits into the back of the unit, and reverse the process with the new clear brake light. I.e. attach light to wiring loom, fit into bootlid and replace hex screws.

Simple as that.

thanks for your reply, ive unscrewed the three tourque screws on the bootlid, but still cant get it free from under my spoiler, its like the gaps to small. dont know whether it would require me to remove the spoiler but then again dont know how to do that either. thanks ben

I believe that with the Chilli spoiler, you have to remove it in order to get the old brake light out and the new one in. Have a search of the forums; this question has cropped up many times before!

Edit: Found this for you...
