Australia Side Mirrors

I took delivery of my MCSC about a month ago and love it. The only things I'm finding difficult to get used to is the side mirrors - both make object look further away. With the restricted view out the rear you can't always see the car behind you in the optically normal rear vision mirror, so on occasions I've moved lanes only to find the car behind me was much closer than I thought. Is it just me or do others have this problem? What's the solution? Change the mirrors?

Cheers

Either add a reverse camera, or check your blind spots before changing lanes

Don't get discourage yet...

The Mini Cooper is a really small car. You just have to adapt a new driving style than you might normally be use to.

It took me a about a week or two to get used to the mirrors too. However, after a year of Mini ownership I've learn to make sutle adjustments when necessay.

Here's a trick I perfer.

Adjust both mirrors to point slightly farther out than normal. Oh about mid-point moving away from the doors.

For example:

If I'm on the far right lane of a three laned highway, then I position my driver side mirror so I can see the outer point of the far left lane. When used in conjuction with the main mirror and constant situtational awareness you'll spot any car that might be hidden in a pontential blind spot. Also when getting ready to change lanes, try moving your body a little bit forward and glance into that side mirror to ensure that there's nothing in the pathways. I find that easier than straining while looking over the shoulders.

One final thing to remember. Seating position also is a factor to consider. Experiment, until you find a setting that works for you. Proper seat height and comfront leads to less stressful driving.

Cheers.
