So I like the look of the stock grill on my mcs, but hate the "chrome" trim around it, especially the grooves within the trim.

But then I also like the black aero grill, if I had a choice I'd stick with the stock but lose the chrome.

Does anyone know of an aftermarket molding thats color matched and just smooth rather than grooved? Or am I out of luck?

Not sure what you could do about the grooves, but at North American Motoring, they would suggest having the trim pieces painted. Some of the people there have partially or fully de-chromed their cars. I would also suggest posting your question there -- its members are more heavy into modding than at Mini2.

Find a grill from an 05. The surround is smooth instead of the grooves in the earlier cars. I see them on Ebay all the time for around $30 or so.

Like peeps have said...buy the 05 grill, and have it painted...nice little photoshop i prepaired earlier...

Great Idea

I much prefer that to the works grill.

I'm amazed that there is so much aftermarket chrome tat to buy, but no nice black or wire mesh grills.
