Roof Decals

Collected a New MINI One earlier in the week to replace a Cooper. Astro Black metallic with a silver check decal on the roof. The dealer mentioned the decals "don't last forever" and do not put the car through an automatic car wash.

So just how long should a roof decal last bearing in mind the car is not garaged and has to put up with the British weather ?

I have been asking the same questions as I am after a UJ roof flag for my MCCa.

I have been told 5 years is an avarage life span, but I guess it depends on how you look after it.

You may wish to visit www.cooperflags.com (one of the site sponsors) as they seem to know their stuff.

Let me know how you go.

Thumbs up silver decals

to be honest, the beamer roof checks arnt that brilliant,if you look at them they leave a 1" gap all round the roof edge.thats not too bad if your roof is white but if its black it looks bad with silver squares.also,if the decal starts to peel away the whole thing will need replacing...expensive.
we have silver mc with a balck roof with silver checks, each silver square is individually cut and stuck on,much easier to sort if one gets damaged.
if you live in the west midlands contact rydale bmw on birmingham rd,oldbury nr dudley.they put me in contact with the guy who they use to apply their after market decals.he'll do a roof for about £100 and bonnet stripes for £60 a pair.
his roof squares go right to the edges and he's bloody good at puttin them on.
only thing is i cant remember his name..sorry,but his unit is between westbrom and oldbury.

The decal is a silver Minisport SE chequer which curves outwards when looking from the front and fits down to edge of the roof. It was very neatly applied, especially around the aerial and rear brake light. BMW don't and can't make silver check decals ... just standard white and black.

I guess a 5 year decal life is reasonable .... it will be interesting to see if the paint fades and leaves a ghost image when ultimately removed. If it does than another decal will need to go on ...perhaps the silver Union jack !

silver chequer is now available through dealers and is to the edge. We are getting new hyper blue later this month, so have ordered silver bonnets and silver chequer. I think it will look nice
