Replacement antenna reception...

I have a MINI Cabrio and I really dislike the RC like antenna right above my head when the top is down.

I was thinking about getting a 6inch chrome replacement antenna. Anyone changed their's out? Will it mess with my reception?

Greetings barbaloot:

Just noticed your post. It's interesting because I noticed that myself today when viewing some pics of the Mini Cabrio with the tops down. They really do stick out. Far more than in the coupe.

Well, I can't speak for the Cabrio models but I changed the antenna in my MC coupe to the short stubby type. (the one made out of rubber colored in black) Got from mossmini.com for $20.00

There was no difference in reception for me. I'm located in New Jersey near the Tri-State area, so the radio signals come in very strong. (Lot's of NYC based stations)

Hopes this helps a little.

The topic has been discussed in the NAM forums:

I'm planning to use a Honda S2000 antenna when my MCSC comes in.

I don't have a drop top, but have fitted a stubby one (nearly sure it's a Honda part) to my S- reception is great, and it looks far better

Hey,
I got a 3.5" stubby aerial off eBay from this guy in America, reception is perfect and looks far better than the OEM aerial IMHO!!!!
Go for it, you have nothing to lose!!!!

If your intereresting in a Mercedes antenna, they're actually the ones off of the C class. Bit pricey, but the size of them is great, and they match up nicely too.

Went ahead and got one from Ebay. Like the ones Matt posted the pics for. Now it's just the shipping waiting game.

Hi Barbaloot,

We get our MCSC in a fortnight and first thing i want to do is replace the aerial! Could you please report back how the reception is in a couple of days.

Thanks in advance!!!

Hey Barbaloot, that thing is tiny. Looks good.

By the way, you may want to train your top to fold correctly. It should cut down on your wear and marks ...

Unless this is an older pic and you have corrected it already. Nice car.

I don't know how to train it! That would rock. What do I do?

Where it looks like the sides are tucking in (the middle fold), just pull them out so that you can see the entire edging. Press it a little. Each time you put the top down, do this. After a few times, it should be good and do it on its own. Let me know if that did not make sense

Dain

Should like like this ...

(Thanks TAZ2822 for the use of your pic)

my short aerial (richbrook) has rubbish reception! i used the shorter of the two lengths supplied ..the longer one was a.bent and b.kind of defeated the object of getting a new aerial. ive heard good reports of richbrooks though..may i have disconnected something internally? or have i just plain screwed up? the reception isnt non-existent, but i find it very hard to find a place where there is reception .

So far the last couple days the new antenna is working great. No change in reception.

But take into account I live in San Francsico, and the radio signals are strong and fill every bandwidth of the radio.
