Hi, my mini has had some problems with the electrical system when driving along. Ill be driving along when all of a sudden everything will just shut down and I have to pull over. The only way to get her running again has been to disconnect the battery and re-connect it. Literally everything cuts out, the hazards, the indicators and even the interior lights which as you can imagine make pulling over very dangerous. This has happened twice in 2 days so I have parked her up for the time being.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be, would it be an ECU fault?

Thanks

Yet again I"m considering replacing my 6 year old MCS convertable . My wife who has no interest in cars gave me instructions -" it must be mini and it must be a convertable " .

So I"ve narrowed it dowm to an MCS roadster or convertable .

Before I spend hours in a dealership I "d like your views on the following :

Convertable :

Pros :
Easy to live with , practical and back seats provide limited accomodation
Plenty of room as I"m 6'3" tall

Cons :
More expensive
Will rattle and shake more
Less rear visibility

Roadster :

Pros :
Slightly better ( but still abysmal rear visibility )

Less scuttle shake

A more "sporty drive "

Better residuals, less depreciation

Looks nicer and its a bit rarer ?

Will the rear screen stay cleaner in bad weather ?

Cons :

Will I fit in it and what is it like to live with on a daily basis ? Although I seem to just fit into it will the low and raked windscreen plus smaller side windows prove to be a major inconvenience in daily traffic ?

So are there any tall people out there who have swapped a convertable for a roadster if so I"d like your thoughts

Thank you

It's while since I've been here as my wife's 03 Cooper just keeps rolling along and has now reached the dizzy heights of 29k miles from when she bought it new.

Anyway.....

I have just bought an 3.0 litre petrol X3 as I need to tow stuff and it eases my 'elderly' back so my 130i M Sport is surplus to requirements. The roads in the SE are so shocking and also so busy now that a 264bhp roller skate is pretty much irrelevant for the use I give it.

To keep a 'fun' car, I am thinking of getting a S and even going so far as a convertible as I don't need practicality - the X3 is for that.

I've just read the topic on the JCW and it seems I'd be going back to a skittish / over firm ride so I would discount that. I've replaced the RFT's on the 130 with proper tyres and that has made a huge difference but, for the mileage I now do (5 or 6k per year per car and mostly local) comfort is more appealing than outright performance.

The convertible is drawing me as the most I would need to carry is a briefcase or rucksack but are they really practical or too compromised. Don't care about the back seats being useless in either - I might even take them out of a hatch to improve load space if that's what I got in the end.

What mileage is reasonable without looking at impending costs?

Any views on either - it would be in the £7k region subject to selling the 130.

Thanks
David

Anyone know if there is a way of altering the frequency the washers operate when the headlights are on? My previous MINI skooshed the headlamps the second time the windscreen washers were operated. My MINI Cooper D did this until I had the car at the dealer for its service and to check why the reading spotlights came on it if I pressed the boot release before unlocking the car. Now the headlamp washers work but there seems no logical sequence when they will spring into action.
