i have a 52 plate mini one, quite randomly the horn stopped working!

everytime i press the button, there is a clicking noise from the general area of the fuse box however the fuse for the horn itself is fine

i've checked under the bonnet and all connectors to BOTH horn units seem to be ok

has anyone got any ideas or experience of this problem?

No experience with this particular problem, but the clicking sound most likely is a relais. That would click always, but usually the horn would make more noise so you wouldn't notice it. There must be a problem in the circuit switched by the relais, the circuit controlling the relais seems fine.
