Offline | Cooper S - Brake difference Explaination? Does anyone know why the Cooper S brakes feel so different to those in the Cooper? Is it a simple case of them having changed the biasing? If so, why?! Confused, of London. ![]() |

Offline | I've got a std. Cooper - was just lucky enough to get a test drive in an S with about 3k on the clock..... Noticably dull - The best way to describe it, is that it's as good stopping an S going forwards, as it is stopping a Cooper going in reverse! More pedal pressure required, and not as sharp. Seems to be more diff. to bring it to a complete standstill. J. |

Offline | Re: Cooper S - Brake difference Explaination? If the S you're driving has the 17" wheels, that could be the answer. As was mentioned, the extra rotational weight of the 17" rims will have an effect. If you look in the Cooper S forum, there's a thread about this right now. Now if both cars have the same wheels and tires ... ![]() '03 Cooper S Chili Red/White, Sport Pack, Rally Lights, HK sound (Estimated build date 12/6/02) '02 WRX Wagon (24,000 miles in 12 months) '90 VW Corrado (180,000 miles in 12 years) |

Offline | Aha - Rotational weight - Thanks, it makes sense now! - I thought the thread referred to unsprung mass Do you think it would have that much of a difference, and would the weight of light alloy plus lower profile tyre be much more (including momentum of rotating mass) than that of my 15s... Also wondering if post September build Coopers had further detuned braking systems. J. |
