All Kinds Of C~a# And Left Pull

ok sorry if this is a little long

recently my airbag light came on so off i went to my dealer who could not book it in for a week so a week later i tool my MINI in and they said they could not read the |Diagnostics plug, so fair enough i asked them to sort it , now becasue i have a clifford they insisted it was my alarm. how convienent, so off i trundeled to another dealer who could still not read my diagnostics, and said it was the alarm.

so as i know the bloke who fitted it he was more than happy to take it in and them to strip it infront of him,

2 dealer trips later they decide to replace the ecu???? (they were now admitting it as warranty) not my alarm.....

it now turns out that it was a random wire which was grounding on the chassis of the car causing it all to stuff up.

nows here is the interesting bit, my original dealer said they KDS'd my car, now the other dealer enquired and it turns out they have no record..... convienent. so it was done again and they said they had to custom build new stuff for it and it could take a while 6-8 weeks as there is a back order. so i basically said keep my car until it works like it should, so they are now payin for a courtesy hire car, OH and the new springs and stuff will be 2-3 days. bit different from 6-8 weeks when they got my car.

any comments?

Tom

Sounds like you may have had the left pull problem which requires new suspension parts specific to your vehicle. I was waiting months for mine, never being given a firm date, in the end I got fed up of the damn thing and told then to fix it or I'll reject it as I'd already been waiting 5 months. Lo and behold the new parts were at the dealer within 2 weeks.

things just got stranger

When I took my coop in for an unrelated matter I was informed that the sus mod was available, but I would have to put in an offical complaint, I could then book it in and have the work done

That sounds about right. The official line is that BMW do not consider the left pull to be a safety issue and therefore will not issue a product recall. Only customers who complain that their car has a problem will be given the fix.
Quite disgusting service I think.

Typical for BMW, however...

I have access to BMW service bulletins, and it is very common for them to describe a fault, then end with these words: "...BMW will replace/repair Part X if and only if the customer complains". By and large, these types of problems are not safety related in a direct sense, rather they involve some sort of minor malfunction that might go unnoticed by some customers. This is the German way of saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Thats fair enough but I think the left pull is a safety issue, my car had quite a severe left pull, one lapse of concentration at motorway speeds would have resulted in my car changing lanes in a matter of seconds. I would have liked to have taken a BMW representative out for a drive in my car and pulled alongside a large truck on the motorway then let go of the steering wheel and see how long it took the petrified BMW man (or woman) to admit this was a potential safety issue as their side of the car got closer to the wheels of the truck at 60mph!

.

well i got my car back after five days with out it

she went in for Diagnostics to be fixed, squeeky seats, airbag light, clock not working at all, and finally left pull,

i have her back and she now has these problems, still got squeeky seat, not fixed

my clock is on but does not keep memory,

the suspension parts were here in 3 days not bad for a 6-8 week quote? i suspect shes still drifting slightly

i have a dent in my wing,

scratch on my other wing

dents in my steering wheel

and i am pretty ****ed off

oh and they did not even hove or pick up old zip ties or black tape.

Just got my car back from dealers for left pull fix, squeeky seats and a few other fixes also. My seats still squeek, but at least she drives straight now. My dealer also managed to scratch (drivers door) my car on previous visit to get suspension sorted. Service manager insisted it could not have been damaged in workshop so either it was me or another customer whilst in car park. Well, it certainly was not me and i was well p*ssed off as car was only 3 weeks old. After much heated discussion he offered to re-spray door, but not admit guilt. I think it was the thought of me calling MINI customer services, and asking if I could use their phone to do it finally convinced him.
Good luck
