Question Windows and sunroof opening on their own!

Has anyone ever heard of this one? We've got a 2003 Mini Cooper.

My wife went out to the car this morning to go to work and the windows were all the way down and the sunroof was wide open! She drove to work and parked on the street and after lunch someone came in and told her that her windows were down and her sunroof was wide open.

Our parking lot is not covered so you can imagine how this could be a problem.

I know if you hold down the unlock button on the key, the windows go down and the sunroof opens. But she looked at her key and nothing seems to be stuck, or anything obvious like that...

Could there be interference coming from somewhere? Does anyone know what frequency range the keyless entry works on?

I've had this happen to me when I've put my keys in my pocket and as I walked away the metal key fob folds back and presses against the button and it puts the windows down/sunroof open.

Are you sure this type of thing couldnt of happened...?

My wife says, no. It seems very strange to me that this would never ever happen before, and then happen twice in a 24-hour period of time...

Hi,
The haunted MINI, with windows and sun -roof opening and closing is sadly not unique to your vehicle. It has been a problem that has occurred mainly on early build MINIs but one that has never been eradicated entirely even on new build vehicles. Do a search on this site, entering Christine (as in the Stephen King story). You will find many similarr tales. It is usually caused by damp getting into the electronic hardware that manages the windows, door locks etc.

Good luck!

cheers
Marsh

Thanks, Marsh. That's interesting, because we've complained several times about the side windows streaking (as if the seal that prevents water from getting down into the door is not tight enough).

Anyway, the dealer gave us a new "body control module" and watched it overnight, so hopefully that settles it. Very, very strange. Christine, indeed! Spooooky...

Thanks again!

Hi Jake,
You are welcome!
Well, we should be putting in our order for our first MINI in a few weeks. I can't wait, although sometimes I wonder about the iffy quality control ....

All the best. Good luck with the haunted MINI.

Cheers
Marsh

Thumbs down

We have found our 2006 Mini Cooper with the Windows Down about 6 inches...
TWICE in the last month...!!!

Luckily it was in our garage... but still its not normal for a new or old car..

BTW - did I mention we are on our 3rd transmission and 2nd power steering pump??

I wish MINI / BMW would implement some stiffer quality control standards..
