Power Steering Feeling Light....

oops, posted twice, d'oh!

Hi all! New to the forum and its annoying that my first post is a querie about a problem!!

Got a mini cooper, 55 plate, bought from new, been having a semi-recurring problem with the steering, and its annoying as its sporadic, but the steering feels so light at times when turning (and sometimes during general driving) that it feels like there is no feedback from the wheels/steering and kinda gives the impression of not being in control of the car!

Not good! Been in past the garage and they found nothing, is this a known fault or has anyone any ideas??

Some days its fine and others it feels like I'm driving something that should have cost me £500 from a dodgy dealer! My first car (H plate Astra!) cornered better at times!!! Not what I had expected from the mini, mind you only one I have driven so no frame of reference....

Hello

I would be checking your tyre pressure because this is nearly always the case with this problem....especially if you say the car is new...it may have been set wrong....i would like to think not...but you never know?

I will say this for the new minis...the steering does feel light if you have 15" alloys fitted and not that bad if you have 16-17" rims fitted.

Cheers

Tyre pressure has been checked and assumed garage checked this too (you would think!)...just that sometimes when cornering it feels like you aint quite in control of where its going, even at low speeds, which is strange....got 16 inch rims fitted!!

Have you checked this against another mini....any friends got a new 55 plate car with similar spec wheels etc?
If in any doubt ask the dealer if you can try a demo vehicle as you are not happy about how it feels and you need a second opinion.

I feel this may be normal but not what you are expecting the car to feel like???

Cheers

Had a Mini One when it was in the garage for a morning and it felt fine (well, better anyway!), I know its not the same, but may try to ask the garage to have a shot of another Cooper...

Just dont kind of expect it to feel like I am driving a car that cost a fraction of the price and kinda dont expect the steering to feel so light! Dunno if that makes sense!!! It may well be normal, just have no other Cooper to compare it with!

Thanks!

Just remember that a mini one does not have a rear anti roll bar like the cooper does so it is not really a good car to try back to back tests with really.
It is a different suspension setup too...the One will have standard suspension and the Cooper will have sports suspension...
