Seat Recalls???

I've had my coopa in for the first oil change and I over-heard a conversation between a service assistant and someone over the phone.

Basically it went along the lines " don't tell the customer that the seats are being recalled"

Anyone know anything?

The seats in my March 02 build Cooper used to squeak and creak like you wouldn't believe.

They were looked at and lubricated, but that only solved the problem for about 50 miles, then they got noisy again.

I complained about them to my dealer, who put some new seat backs on order and fitted them when it was in for some other work.

300+ miles later and (touch wood! ) no noises have returned.

No mention of a recall though...

Indie Blue/White Cooper ordered - Expecting Late March... hang on - make that mid March.

No, wait - it's here!!!!!!!!!!

Woo Hoo!!!

Well they seemed to be keeping a hush hush on it! ie only ppl who complain get a fix! and the fix is an entire seat replacement.

From what i can gather it is something to do with the leavers and that its shoddy build job!

intresting! perhaps you can quiz the service folks out about it!

right found out as little more someone from bmw!
Apparantly the mechanical leavers on the seats do not do what they are supposed to. ie the right seat leaver does it correctly whilst the opposite side doesn't!

anyone had this problem?

My seat levers cause absolute confusion on the passenger side.. push the 2 levers in opposite directions to move the seatback back into position.

Who is building these cars on the lines? Even the Austin Allegros didn't use to do that!!

Seat problems

My passenger seat has been stuck since I took delivery July 5. It won't move backwards and forwards so anyone over 6' is uncomfortable with their knees against the glove box. Two service depts have looked at it and both agreed a new bracket assembly needs to be ordered. They are on backorder so I don't have a fix date yet.

When I showed the second dealer, he said, "Wow, and these are the new seats!" which means they've already been through one round of modifications. He also said there hadn't been a seat yet that they couldn't get unjammed (mine was the first one they couldn't fix) so I asked him how many have had a jamming seat problem. He said about 6 of the 159 cars that particular dealership has delivered.

My MCS was in to have the seats looked at, I also asked them to check out a rattle from the rear, they apparently stripped the seats down and lubricated everything . Also taking off the panels in the back at the sides and packing them out so they wouldnt rattle, seems to have done the trick. no more squeeks yet

my MINI one seats have both jammed (passenger side, thankfully) and squeeked. Had both seats stripped and lubed and it worked.......for about 50 miles. squeek has returned, no more jamming though
