Air Bag Service Light

Hi there,

Today the Airbag service light came on in my 02 Plate Cooper. Just wondering if anyone knew if my 5 years TLC service package would cover getting this sorted?

Thanks

I dont belive the TLC pack covers things like that, it should be your covered warranty, did you extend it????

Did not know there was a service light for the airbag.

But my light came on a couple of months ago, but that was because i had a loose connection on the seat airbag, they just reset the airbag.

Afraid I don't have an extended warranty, any ideas what a straightforward diagnosis and fix might cost (roughly) to sort?

Canada Air Bag Service Light

I had the same issue several times with my 02 Mini. Each time it was corrected under warranty. I was advised that is was the sensor with the drivers seat. And at that time I was advised not to put things under the seat (ie like my CD Case) as this was causing the electrical connectors to come apart. Since then and nothing under the seat I have not experienced the problem again.

Its funny you say that as yesterday I had to put something behind the drivers seat which may have gone underneath the seat a bit. The light came on yestreday. Do you know if it is something I could sort or would I still need to take it to the dealer to get the light switched off?

As far as i know once the light comes on none of the air bags in the car work.

The system has registered a fault somewhere, i.e your seat airbag connection has triggered it off. This is very comon as the cable under the seat is quite short, so when u move the seat forwards and backwards it can trigger a fault on the airbag system.

The only way to turn the light off and more importantly have working airbags is to get the garage to plug there computer in to reset the airbag. They also may change the cable under the seat.

Mine's just gone on a 54 plate Cooper Convertible - thought it may be the seat connections as I had adjusted the seat height just before the light stayed on. The cables look quite sturdy, but the connectors look a little flimsy. Didn't fancy meddling with them in case I set the seat airbags off

I had the dreaded air bag light problem the first 2 years of ownership of my '02 Cooper. BMW Northeast field rep finally sorted it out, bad wiring harness under passenger seat. Funny thing, I received a letter today from Miniusa. States that any airbag light problems will be covered by an extended warranty-10 years/150,000 miles. Also got a sticker to affix in my Service & Warranty booklet stating the extension of the warranty.
