Offline | anybody out there had any weird vibrations while braking at high speeds??? last week, on a motorway, while doing 120-130 kph, not so gently applied the brakes and the steering wheel started to vibrate pretty much... got scared but everythings ok so far... my car just got out of service, forgot to tell them but since they changed the clutch they tested my MCS and when i asked them if they felt anything while braking, they said no... any ideas what it might be?? should i be worried?? please help! How wide is the hall-way, Napster? |

Offline | i guess you may have a warped brake disk or wheels out of balance? however if it only happens under braking, it would suggest a warped disk i think. I am pretty sure if it is slightly warped, it is not dangerous per say, just uncomfortable, and probably requires to be replaced, and if you replace a disk, you are better replacing pads as well (and do the other side of the axle as well at the same time) i.e. if it is a front disk, there should be no need to do the rears, and vice versa. The only real danger is if the warp is serious, the vibration can cause the piston to get forced back into the caliper, to you therefore require more pedal pressure to move it back out again to stop yourself. Not a particularly nice feeling, so prob. worth sorting sooner than later. Gerry MINI Cooper, Chili Pack, Xenons, heated washers, MFSW, ASC+T, |

Offline | I agree, You have a warped front brake rotor - if it is still under warranty I would have it checked and replaced. This normally happens if you overheat your rotors OR if you have had a brake job done -- AND they turned the rotors ( making them thinner ) it makes the rotors warp easier!!. Good luck |
