driver's door doesn't unlock...

...using the key remote and when i press the lock-doors switch on the console, the driver's door doesn't lock/unlock.

i have to use they key in the keyhole to open the driver's door from the outside, but it locks just fine when i press the lock key on the remote.

any ideas?

I was going to suggest that selective central locking has been activated (which means one click for the drivers door, two for the passenger), but that doesn't apply to the interior switch. I would suggest a trip to the dealers if there's no easy fix posted here.

Question

As you have no dealer, all I can suggest is that you disconnect the car battery, leave it for half an hour, reconnect the battery and hope the circuit resets itself!

Hi
On my Cooper the left door unlocked fine but would not lock electrically. The problem was that the unlock motor was fouled with a glue like substance, that fouled the motor armature.

I removed the door lock mechanism from the door.

I then opened the unit by grinding away one rivet head.

Made about 12 plates cut to the size 6mm x 25mm (plate thickness about 0.2mm).

I pushed the plates under the plastic retaining clips that keep the unit sides together.

This prevents the clips from breaking during the opening action.

Then I took the motors apart by preying open the motor retaining clips.

Cleaned out the motors and re-assemble the mechanism.

The rivet was replaced with a screw and locknut of appropriate size.
