Offline | Hi, i have an early 02 cooper, just covered 20k and been in for its service at a bmw garage, since i've had it back i've had problems with the electrical system, i've contacted bmw and they want to charge me to look at the problem, because its an intermittant fault and the car is out of warranty i am a bit reluctant to leave it with them for a few hours at the cost of £60 an hour labour for them to find nothing wrong! the problem is normally when i'm parking up or manuvering at very low speed changing between reverse and first gear eg: driving into a parking space, reversing back into it, and moving forward to straighten up, as i select first the engine keep running but all of the electrics die guages lights power steering (which is dangerous as hell since i near totaled my dads car last time this happened :/) then when i take the key out of the ignition the speedo vibrates like the ecu has been reset??? forgot to mention that once the electrics cut out an die they start back up again, takes a few seconds for the pwer steering to get back upto speed, oh and i've recently fitted a set of hella lamps and replaced the bulbs with 100watt bulbs for a bit of extra highbeam Also when i pulled into work the other morningi pulled into my parking space applied the brakes and when i came to a full stop the abs light came on, applied the handbrake and took my foot off the pedal and the light went off, applied the brake again and it worked fine! To top it off my airbag light came back on this morning after being charged £45 for BMW ot fit a replacement loom during my service. This is all VERY confusing and im at the point of selling the car because of all the hassle that comes with minis, if anyone can shed some light on the issue i'd be very grateful as i really dont want to get rid of my cooper its a great little car when it wants to work properly. ![]() Last edited by The_length : May 24th, 2006 at 02:06 PM. |

Offline | Well I'm a little confused also. You say you had your service this morning and they replaced the wiring loom to an airbag. Since you got it back you have had electrical problems, although your description of these problems seem to indicate they were happening BEFORE this morning? So which is it? If they only happened today after the service, do you not think there is cause and effect relationship here? Dealer fixes electrics - you now have problem with electrics. Don't know about warranty, if the dealer caused the fault, he should investigate and fix it for free. If the fault appeared some time ago, and the car is out of warranty it is normal that you would have to pay to get it fixed. No garage fixes a car for free (I wish!!). Only thing I might suggest is you check that your battery connections are good and tight. ![]() |
