DIY passenger door central locking failure?

for the past week, i've noticed that the lock on my passenger door does not respond to the centre console lock/unlock toggle. it also does not respond to the 'open' button on the remote. the only time it does respond is when i am locking the car with the remote. hence, it has been quite a problem when opening the car door for passengers (i have to go inside and open the door with the handle from the inside)... locking is fine. as yet, i have not taken it to the dealer because of time constraints, hoping that the problem would resolve itself. no luck yet. anyone else had this problem? and if so, how was it solved? any help or imformation would be greatly appreciated. cheers.

Mine was fixed under warranty.
Part number they used was :
51-20-0-556-768 Door Lock.

Exact same symptoms as your's except it was the drivers door.

Now that I think about it, it is the same door....

I still have it on my driver's door - car not under warranty

Merve - did you pay for your door lock? If so, how much was it in total?

DIY Similar Issue

I have almost the same issue. I can open the door from the outside fine (passenger door side), but after the door is locked and i open it from the inside, my passenger cannot get out, i have to open the door for them.

I just make a good excuse, i want to be a gentleman and open the door for the girls.

But i'm planning to give my mini the 10k service it needs. so hopefully the dealer will fix it up.

I was just about to give up and head to the old dealership and hand over my hard earned cash when, low and behold, the sun started shining and the passenger door started to open with the switch and the key... all by itself...! it's been fine over the weekend and been sweet since. I have a sneaking suspicion that it may have been due to the heavy rainfall over the last few weeks - water playing up with the electrics? anyway - hopefully it stays in a working state...! and hopefully you guys will have some luck too with the windows issue! now... hurry up and bring out the 07so i can upgrade before something else goes wrong...! =)

Hi all,

I have the same problem with my passenger door, and have done for some months now. Cooper not under warranty. Has anyone taken the door panel off to have a look?
Has anyone paid for the new door lock, if so how much?
Does anyone know of a DIY fix?

Thanks

seems like an occuring problem, i like the idea of the weather perhaps to blame, as mine has just started to play up, heavy snow recently. wondered how difficult it is to change lock as suggested by others. Any advice would be really appreciated.
