New 2006 MCS - front splitter scrapes all the time

My Cooper S is now a week old and I'm constantly catching the front bumper on speed bumps and small changes in gradient (pulling on/off drive). Even at very low speeds (5-10mph) it still catches and is bending back the plastic splitter at the bottom of the bumper. I have swapped the 17" bullet alloys for some 18" with 215/35/18 tyres. The ride height should be pretty much the same so why is this happening all the time ?

My mate has had an MCS for 3 years and doesn't have this problem. Anyone else having same problem ?

Has it caused any damage other than just bending the plastic splitter at the bottom ?

That does seem exceptionally bad. I have a 2003 Cooper S, SS+, lowered 30mm and I'm OK over most speed bumps. Have to put one wheel up over speed cushions though to lift the car over them.

It was acceptable in the 80's

Staying away from speed bumps in modern Britain is about as easy as driving to Sainsburys and not seeing another mini on route - impossible.

Maybe there is an excuse for 4x4's after all. Little urban mountains everywhere.

I just attack speed bumps at speed, and don't worry about the noise, as at the end of the day that part of the underneath is there to protect the car and warn you of how low things are, its nothing to worry about

Its only a forum you know!

You've lowered your ride height by 4.3mm

I have the same problem with my '05 MCS.
My only advice for you is try to go over the speed bumps one wheel at a time (diagonally). It has saved my car from hitting a lot of times, and also allows you to go much faster over some bumps that the car doesn't normally hit...
Hope this helps!!

How wide is the hall-way, Napster?

yep getting the same problem on an 06 MCS

I used to have an 02 MCS and the clearance on that was fine, but this 06 is catching several times going over the same route, so theyve definately lowered it in the latest revisions.
