Gear box

Hi,
For two months I'm proud owner of Mini one Park Lane, and I'm more than happy with my car. But I having a little problem with a gear box, sometimes when I turn to R I hear strange sound like starching metal to metal. Anyone knows what is this? Or does it anyone having a same problem?
Sorry for my English.
Nikola

A common problem with the new Getrag gearbox I'm affraid

Unlike most modern gearboxes they didn't include syncromesh on the reverse gear.

Try this:

1. Select neutral.

2. Release clutch pedal.

3. Depress clutch pedal again.

4. Then engage reverse.

An old technique, from the days before syncromesh. Does it help?

Tigger.

Hi Tigger,
I tried and it helps but I'm afraid, can I do it some damage to the gear box when I herd this strange sound?

Unless you have been doing it for a long time it will probably be okay.

Tigger.

nmartin,

As with Tigger, your gearbox will be fine. Congrats on the car.

Another way of preventing the "snatching" noise is to put it in neutral and then select !st gear and THEN select reverse. Works perfect everytime for me.
Good luck with new car.
