| nath_mini06 | Cooper S overheating Was driving in London yesterday and was stuck in constamt traffic jams. I have a Nov 52 cooper S which is due for a big service soon as it has 54k on the clock. During stopping and also while going along the fan keeps kicking in all the time. Also comes on while parked up after driving. I can't belive the car is overheating as the coolant level is on normal at the moment and oil level is also fine. The coolant tank is not low so I'm not sure why it can be overheating at the moment. Any help or reponse would be appreciated. Many thanks Nathan |

Offline | my car has been doing that all weekend when stuck in traffic.. I think its quite normal actually.. the fan is just helping to cool the engine.. can sometimes stay on after the car is switched off.. only happens when it is warm outside though. its been warm in scotland too! my old man just bought a new jag xk.. its fans were remaining on this weekend and its got 90 miles on the clock!!! |

Offline | Sounds like the fan(s) are just doing what they're supposed to do. I'd be more worried if I didn't hear them kicking in! ![]() There aint no party like my nana's tea party |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | Sounds normal. If it's coming on after you have switched off the ignition then this would normally be the sign of a problem as it doesn't get hot enough in the UK for it to kick in like that. Everytime I've had it happen it's been down to low coolant due to a leak but as you say coolant level is normal it doesn't sound like that unless you have an airlock. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

Offline | My 52 plate MCS has been doing this for the last few weeks and on tuesday the expansion tank exploded (The car is in with BMW now. They have replaced the expansion tank but tell me it's still not running right. They are testing the head and the cooling system as I write this. It might be worth getting checked out before your engine suffers any serious damage just in case as I think it's £1000 plus if the head goes. |
