Ireland Tic Toc Sound - Driving me Crazy!

Just bought a new Mini One Seven and the last few weeks there is a loud ticking sound coming from the engine. I brought it to the local Mini Dealer and he said they tightened the fan belt which is what might have been causing the noise but it didn't make a difference(if you ask me, I don't think they did anything!). Its particularly loud first thing in the morning. I appreciate no engine is 100% quiet but this is mad. I can hear it when I'm driving along, with the radio on & windows up! It doesn't at all sound like a '06 car, more like a '86 car(no disrespect to anyone who has a 1986 car!)

I know I'll have to go back to the local Dealer but he is not showing much interest because I didn't buy the car from him. But, if I can go back with some suggestions on what might be wrong, he might take me seriously. A number of people have commented on the noise because it wasn't there the first 2/3 weeks of buying the car so that worried me even more when other people noticed it.

I love the car, how it looks & how it feels but this noise is driving me crazy........ please me happy again!

Please help!

Hi Daisy,
Does the noise increase or decrease in speed as you accelerate, or is it a constant ticking noise...?

Hi Tony, When I'm slowing down its definitely louder but it's there no matter what speed I'm doing. Not imagining it, just incase anyone is thinking that!!!!!!

Does it go away when you push the clutch pedal down?

Wouldn't have really taken any notice of this to be honest? Why would you say that?

If it goes away when you push in the clutch, it may be noise from the gearbox, which
is a common but usually harmless noise in MINIs. Mine does it in cold weather.
