Rusty / oxydized connectors on 3 & 4 coil pack.

Hello to all!

Checked the 4 spark plug cable connectors on my coil this weekend and was unhappy to find connectors 3 and 4 are now rusty and corroded (red/balckish) - gave it a little wipe with come soft cloth (remains black now).

Now, I don't know to what extent this can impact performance etc, nor how this thing appears on the connectors as they seem thoroughly sealed..

My question is: is there any product I can use to get these connectors clean and provide optimal electrical conductivity? Using a metal brush or sand paper seems a bit harsh!

I know it's probably not true but after cleaning the connectors I thought the acceleration felt smoother again.

This is a common thing , the studs can be cleaned up using fine steel wool

Indeed, I already noticed this last year on number 4 - now number 3 also - and wanted to share this for the enthusiasts who would like to check this on their MINIS.

You can get electrical contact grease which will stop that happening. Or you can use a very thin wipe of vaseline or similar product.

All copper contacts should have contact lubrication on them really, so it wouldn't hurt to go round doing others at the same time for your own benefit.

Hi Guys, we've just received a new batch of Live Wive ignition leads in and they now include a nice little tube of special grease
Ive noticed one or two of the older cars coming in for GTT conversions are getting difficult to remove the stock leads from the plugs. When we fit the GTT Iridium plugs or change the leads we now use this anti seize on the connectors We also copper-slip the plug threads to.
Best Regards Roland
