I was minding my own business, getting to my office and just a block away, when I downshifted from 4th to 3rd as I approached an intersection with a light just turning yellow.

All of a sudden I hear (and feel) the unmistakable sound of gears NOT meshing, and the shifter just went sort of slack. Like it became sort of disconnected from the transmission.

The car was moved on a flatbed to the dealer, and I guess someone there will tell me what happened, but I don't want to wait until tomorrow.

Any of you folks have any ideas on what the F*@! happened?

Sorry to hear about your prob.

I'm willing to put a dollar that it wasn't the trans but the shifter. Cable(s) broke or got dislodged. But I'm just guessing.

these cars are known to have tranny probs well in the cooper that i know about anyway,i'm running on my second gearbox compliments of the dealer.Hope it works out for you.

35 hours after BMW picked up the car, still no word on the problem.
