I haven't driven the car hard. Usually 3K rpm for shifting. The problem is, whenever I try to push the car a bit, try to step on the gas and shift faster (yet not even hitting 4k), the engine sometimes gives this WHINE - the best way to describe it is if the mini owed me money and i was choking it. You know the sound of a violent wind outside your window? Like that, coupled with boo radley's ghost.

This is not a pleasant sound. In contrast, I can compare it to those rare times when I hit 4K and it gives off this nice rumble, not a strained whine.

Is this just a matter of warming up? I do notice that once I get the whine, the whine sticks with me throughout the trip whenever I try to get past 3K. Part of me wants to just stomp on the gas anyway, but the car seriously seems strained with the whine, and the car doesn't seem to be getting up to speed.

Anybody else get this problem? Should I get an early oil change?
