Offline | iPod Adaptor Suddenly NOT Working Anyone have a theory on the following? Had left my iPod Nano attached to the factory-installed adaptor in the glove compartment overnight in my garage as usual. Had not had any problems with it whatsover, except an occasional crackling sound which I attributed to a poor recording via iTunes. Had listened to the iPod with no problem on the way home from work the evening before, then come out to leave for work and crank up the stereo the next morning and the following: Steering wheel controls would not/could not advance the song or go back for that matter to the previous song. Turned off the stereo and disconnected iPod Nano and could not get my iPod to turn off and the MINI screen wouldn't go away. Later that evening, I tested it with my computer and with my earphones and it worked fine. When I reconnected it to the adaptor in the car, it now was now not even recognized by the stereo - says "No Magazine". And instead of being under Mode "CD2", it would only advance through "CD", "FM1", and "FM2" which is where it said "NO MAGAZINE". Just came from the dealer a bit ago and they say they tested other iPods (but not iPod Nanos) in the car and they worked fine. Any ideas? It just seemed like a loose connection to me, but they are saying that it may be a software update issue with my iPod Nano and that I need to give Apple a call - god forbid. Thanks! M ![]() |

Online | There are issues with some nanos but it normally causes just no sound - to rectify, plug in headphones, thurn on ipod, connect to car, disconnect headphones If the car isn't seeing the ipod then sounds like the adaptor needs a reset, pull out both radio fuses from the kick panel fuse box |

Offline | Actually, I just reset my iPod and wouldn't you know it....it's now working! Happy days are here again. Okay....well, spoke too soon I think. Seemed to be working fine on way to work this morning and all was going well, then tried to advance to next song via MFSW and no response. Had to reset the iPod again at a traffic light. | 6th year n00b | I've had the same problem since my OEM adapter was installed. The no-response problem started after I picked up the Mini and got about 5 miles from the dealership. Rebooting the iPod (a nano) is the only fix, and even then, it's a crap shoot for how long it works. I took it back to the dealership for service and they told me the problem was with my iPod. I told them that wasn't likely, since my iPod works with a Pioneer adapter installed in the wife's Miata, when plugged in with an RCA cable to a receiver, and when I'm using it with headphones. I decided to humor the dealership -- I told them I'd use my wife's nano for a while and see if I could duplicate the problem. It didn't take long. Her nano got into the no-response condition after about 1 day of off and on use. After rebooting hers, the problem happened 15 minutes later. Yeah, it must be my iPod. I'm going to let the dealership replace everything and give it another shot, even though Denison's new products look a lot better. That instant gratification impulse will get you every time, it seems. |

| Lovin' every MINI of it! | Actually I think it might have to do with the newer version of firmware on the ipod. There have been several reports floating around that the newer firmware does not work with the OEM adapter. So, you might try downgrading it to see if that helps. Global Moderator ![]() |

| 6th year n00b | Thanks -- I was hoping to avoid messing with a firmware downgrade, but that's what I've done. And it's not as straightforward as some of the instructions posted elsewhere would have you believe. After messing with the iPod and hunting down software for several hours, I've got it down to FW 1.1 (from 1.3). If anyone is interested, I'll post the steps that I went through (very manual, but easier and safer than dinking directly on the iPod itself) to get the firmware downgraded from 1.3 to 1.1. I still don't know if this is going to fix the OEM adapter problem, but I'm guessing that it does. |

| 6th year n00b | The downgrade of my iPod nano's firmware (from 1.3 to 1.1) seems to have fixed the no-response condition. I've used it every day, off and on (left connected in the glove box, removed and then reconnected, etc.) for the better part of a week and have experienced no problems. Selecting and deselecting the random function from the HK radio works as does the seek feature within songs. Both of these features were previously spotty (when the iPod was responsive) with the 1.3 firmware. Note: my iPod is a 1st gen nano (4GB), so I have no idea if this will fix the same and/or similar problems with any other iPod models. Apple has the 1.1 firmware available for download (see link): Apple - Support - Downloads - iPod Updater 2006-01-10 Downgrading can be a pain in the *****, especially if iTunes 7.x and the 1.3 FW are installed. It may require some trial and error to do this, depending on how iTunes is configured and where your physical mp3 / m4p files are mapped, among other things. Just make sure you make a backup (or rename) your iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml files, and you may want to make a copy of your entire \iTunes folder just to be safe. I performed a complete uninstall of all iPod updater files and iTunes version 7.0.2, reinstalled the software from the original iTunes CD (iTunes version 5 and FW 1.0), did a complete reset on the iPod (dropping it to FW version 1.0 from the install CD), installed the iPod updater (for FW version 1.1), updated the iPod FW to 1.1, and then reinstalled iTunes 7.0.2. As long as you have backups of your files, you won't lose anything (playlists, library, etc.). Your mileage may vary. |
