Gearbox / clutch issue

I took my 04 MCS in to Sytner Coventry yesterday for them to look at a few things under warranty. Main thing was the gearbox which was rattling at high revs. After looking at it they called to advise theyd need to order a new gearbox and clutch and get the car back in for a few days to look at it. After driving it they couldnt replicate the fault but felt the clutch was more than likely at fault.

The car has only covered 20,000 miles but they say if it needs a new clutch its something I will have to pay for. They feel it could be a release bearing?? but if its just worn I will be charged. Theres no way I have worn that clutch out!! Has anyone had similar issues?

I have also noticed the ticking noise at idle when the clutch isnt depressed. Can I use this card to reinforce my claim should they say its worn out??

Any advice welcomed!

Hi Durham Fox, if you look through some of the older threads on here (sorry dont know how to link you up to them but the most recent one is "rattle under bonnet" started by sebby) you will see that this is an ongoing problem with both the midlands gearbox and the newer getrag gearboxes. BMW have confirmed that there is an issue with the gearboxes, so i would investigate a bit more before you shell out any money to them

My thoughts exactly. Theres no way Im parting with cash to replace a clutch thats 20,000 miles old, no way at all.

Ive spent the afternoon getting ammunition together should they even think of asking me to pay. I also have the MINI Service sheet outlining the problem and fix for the rattling from the engine bay thats goes when the clutch is depressed.
