Angry runflat light???

hey, bit of a newbie here i normally scan the forum to find someone who's had a similar problem but i seem to be on my own with this one and at a bit of a loss....

yesterday i replaced 4 tires, too the stock 205/45/17 euphoria's off and replaced them with 4 205/40/17 toyo proxes, problem is not long after fitting them the runflat light started blinking, i stopped at a garage checked my pressures 3 were 35 and one was 42!! (good ol kwikfit) dropped all 4 to 31 psi, got back in turned the ignition off held the runflat button and started it up, light was off but came back on again not far down the road.

I know that all the pressures are fine, and to my knowledge have restet the sensors to the new tires? i've been in touch with kwikfit and they dont want anything to do with it "we just fitted tires" hmmmm. if anyone can help? the blinking light is driving me nuts (aswell as my airbag light) otherwise it'll be another expensive trip to williams bmw

Gotta love mini's!!! lol

That's where you went wrong......

you should start the engine
press the buton until the light comes on for a few seconds
then start driving

Once you do that the light should go off

ps, re-check your tyres when they are cold before re-setting the indicator

Here's what my owner's manual says:
  1. Ignition key in position 2
  2. Press the button long enough for the yellow indicator lamp in the instrument cluster to light up for a few seconds
  3. Start the engine.
After a few minutes driving time, the Flat Tire Monitor sets the current inflation pressure in the tires as the target values to be monitored.

If the setting is used when running non-runflats will the light come on if the pressures go down?

When i had runflats on the front and i got a puncture (no air at all in tyre) the light didn't come on?

*shrug* not sure about that one, maybe the sensors weren't reset to the right lvls?? i do know that the runflat sensors work by comparing how fast each wheel is turning in comparison to the others ? if you get a puncture the rolling circumference of the deflated tire will be smaller, making it turn faster than the other three and triggering the sensor, thats how i understand it anyway! if i'm wrong am sure someone will let me kno

Twice a year I change the tires on my car. Fall gets winter tires and spring gets OEM runflats.

Each time, the runflat light lights up once, I reset it and it never comes back on.

I have had it come on twice under normal driving and the tires were all at the same pressure,
so it does have a non-zero false positive rate.

Run Flat Indicators it seems have their problems.
Mine came on with alarm at about 60 stopped car a few miles later and tyres ok. Re started car and the light was off. Thought I better call in the garage and check tyre pressures and despite resetting switch the light remains on. ABS light not on so looking like electronic module problem perhaps.
Any ideas !!!!

I found this too. It seems to require a reset so that the calibration levels are set for the changed set of tyres/wheels.

Hello MINIAC,

Thank you for your Oct 7th, 2006, 02:00 PM posting. I've likewise found this same photo on my manual, around page 62. I've looked all over my vehicle, and cannot for the life of me, find this button. Where is this button?

Embarassingly non-techie here.. thanks for your indulgence,

Ashton )

Ashton ...

Here's a picture showing the location of the TPMS reset button ...

The picture above is for a MINI built prior to July 2004. After this date I believe the button is on either side of handbrake console.

EDIT: Indeed it is ...
