The gas struts are expensive, but easy to change.

To get them off, prize off the clips at each end. (They can fly off and get lost, so make sure you can catch them!) and then just take the weight of the bonnet and lift them off.

Take them both off. If one is stronger than the other, just buy one and replace the weak one.

They do not need to be replaced in matched pairs like shock absorbers as they are not used when the vehicle is moving.
