Offline | Car suddenly goes "off" literally Hello to everyone! I am a newbie here. My car is a 2004 Mini Cooper CVT. It has around 2,000 plus km on its total mileage. I encountered a very strange problem with my Mini last few days. I have done some searching in the forums to check if anyone encountered the same problem I did encounter, I was not able to find any. So here is what happened to my car last few days. I was running at around 110 km/h steadily and slowly accelerating, by the time i saw the speedometer read 120 km/h i heard a sort of tone like "tuung" and so i backed off from the gas pedal to let the car slow down. After about 3 minutes or so, I slowly applied more gas to speed up the car to 120 km/h again. When the needle hit 120, there was no tone or sound anymore so I let the car reach up until 125km/h. As the car went pass 125km/h, suddenly I felt the car just shut off! I tried to step on the gas but nothing happened. The tachometer and speedometer needles just kept on falling from 120 to 100,80,60,40.... The engine was not revving anymore. I pulled to a stop on the roadside and tried to start the car again. As I turned the key, the car did start and I heard the engine come to life but after that it suddenly died down again. I did this for a few times but same results came out. I would like to know if anyone has ever encountered this problem with their Mini? What could be the problem with my car? Any help would be appreciated. |

| Lovin' every MINI of it! | Did the power go out in the car? (the dash lights and such). My first guess would be that the fuel pump is going out but with cars nowadays, it could be anything. The noise you heard could have been the pump straining. Did the car ever start again? Global Moderator ![]() |

Offline | The power did not went out. Dashboard lights and the other displays were still functioning. The car did start but right after the moment it comes to life, it suddenly dies down and goes off again. You have a point there in thinking that the fuel pump is the one causing the problem. I hope the fuel pump is not totally broke, it's costly to get a new one. I just had my original fuel pump replaced last March of this year because the car would not start. Thanks for the help Flakemeister! I will tell the mechanics in our local motorshop to check out my Mini's fuel pump. |
