How much seat wear is too much?

HI all,
I have black half leather in my 2005 Cooper and it now has 12k miles on the clock.
A patch of leather on the drivers seat where it joins the cloth is wearing through - there is no shine in this area just the rough leather under the original smooth finish. I'm careful with the seats and regularly feed them with leather cream etc.

At the moment it's pretty small, however the seats on my Merc (with 96k miles) that I sold prior to the Cooper had perfect seats so why should the Mini's be wearing after only 12k miles?

At what point would it be considered to be a warranty replacement item - anyone else had the same problem?

Thanks, Geoff.

Sorry to be the bearer of bads new Geoff, but upholstery and the like is only covered under warranty for the first twelve months of a car's life.

Unless your MINI was first registered in November /December 2005 you will have a bit of a battle on your hands getting MINI to pay for a replacement...

Unless there is a clear manufacturing defect I'm not sure it is a warranty claim - just wear and tear. You may or may not consider this to be acceptable. I have the same half black leather in a Nov 2004 build with nearly 40k miles, and the leather on the driver's side where I get in and out is really worn as though it's a car with 100k miles - all the other leather bits are fine. I'm not sure I understand your exact description though - as mine has worn it has become more shiny.

I would think that a 2005 should not be showing wear that quickly. I would hit the MINI dealer and have a chat with them on the matter as it does seem to be premature.

Got 3,100 miles on my Mini. The half leather on the passenger side was scuffed and looked so so cheap. Dealer replaced leather last week. Its now being picked up today as they did a bad job replacing it last week.

It is unfortunate that the leather they use in the MINI is rather cheap.

...The guy that came to collect/swap over said after a couple of days of driving the automatic, I'll want to trade my Cooper (manual) in. At that point I fell about laughing. Then I realised, maybe I would be better off as I've had so many problems!!!!

Doubt it, but they are fun to drive and much more like the go cart that we used to drive as kids.

I don't have the cloth/leather. Instead I have the Faux leather..aka Leatherette.
After 2 yrs/40,000km, the drivers seat was cracking badly. I raised this issue during my Inspection 1 and they happily replaced the seat portion under warranty.

From my experience if they assess it's poor seat material verses normal wear and tear, they will replace it.
