DIY Rusted Jack

I suffered a flat tyre yesterday and when I opened the boot to get to the jack I noticed it has corroded. I can't see that water has got into the compartment and the boot itself has always been dry.

Does anyone have any suggestions how this could have happened? When I bought the car 7 months ago I checked these before leaving the dealership and they were fine.

The water probably came in through the edge of the light clusters or the high level brake light. If the car is still in warranty take it in to them it will be covered if not. Take out the parcel shelf put the back seats down. Remove the covers from the side compartments in the boot. get someone to spray the garden hose (lightly) on the back of the car. (Like rain) Sit in the back with a torch. Look behind the light clusters and at the bottom of the tail gate. If you can see were the leak is coming from your dealer should be able to supply you with new foam seal for thw light clusters and they are faily easy to fit. Hope you find your leak.
