Arghh, help please !

Not sure where to post this but I have a 06 MCS and have an annoying rattle.

I thought at first it may be suspension related as it was most apparent at low speeds especially on cobbled streets I use fairly often. But now it does it all the time as I edge along in slow moving traffic and even does it, although more faintly when stationary. It's like a soft rattle / knocking, hard to explain but akin to the noise a Dove makes .

It makes no difference whether or not the car is in gear or not or if I have the clutch dpressed or not. Does this rule out clutch release bearing. If it does then I can't think of anything else.

Help please, before entrusting it to the dealer.

J.

Have you tried popping the bonnet and seeing if you can (roughly) work out the area the rattle is coming from while idliing?

Yeah going to try this at lunch. Not done it before because until yesterday i've not heard the noise when stationary.

Now that might be on the money. The noise it pretty constant while moving slowly and as I brake to come to an hault it usually quikens up and then quietens off when stationary. An engine mount would fit this scenario.

Is this the kind of sound you've heard on yours when they failed ?.

Thanks,

J.

engine mount failure

Yeh,sounds about right-the noise will change as load is transferred by the movement of the engine as the car brakes/accelerates due to movement in the engine mount.

The other one I found is the passenger seatbelt clip at the side of the seat. It taps on the plastic on the side of the passenger seat. This is quieter when stationary and louder/quicker when driving or accelerating or breaking as the car vibrates more...irritating and not sure how to fix it. But sounds like the engine mount to me if its in the bay area at the front and does what you say.

Thanks for the help guys.

It weas in the dealers yesterday who diagnosed a leaking engine mount. It's on back order, so I have to put up with the rattle for another 2 weeks

They also cured my mistery rattle in nearside door and cleaned out my windscreen washer jets ( how do these block up so quickly - car only 3 months old ? )

Oh and they cleaned inside and out

Thanks again.
