Clutch Pedal Problem

I have a 02 Cooper S that is experiencing a slightly perplexing clutch issue. Over the last year the clutch pedal stiffness seems to be gradually increasing. At this point the force required to push and actuate the pedal is easily three times what it was when the car was new. The car has 105K miles on it and the actual clutch “action” (engage/disengage) is perfect other than the force required. Has anyone else experienced this affliction? It is starting to make the car rather difficult to drive.

my clutch started to get like this just before it went, you might need a new clutch soon

Was your car under warranty when you had the clutch replaced? If not might I ask what the job cost?

My car was in warantee but a clutch is classed as a wear and tear item so they don't have to cover it. Luckily they replaced mine for free as a good will gesture. They said it would have cost £900 ($1700?)

Thanks. I feared it would cost as much. The more I think about it the more it points to a thrust washer issue.

Sounds like it could be the pilot bearing going bad and a clutch job in the near future. You should be able to find someone to do it for about 500 bucks I would think. Surely you can find a garage in MD that deals with MINIs or forign cars.
