Offline | Yeah, mine has been in twice to have my squeeky passenger/drivers seats fixed, they strip the seats down to the frame and lube everything up. Works for a while, then the squeek returns, though this time, my drivers seat seems to be holding out on me. | MINI2 Master | Mine just recently started creaking a bit after 6000kms or so. Not too bad and so far I find if I adjust the seat up/down forward/back a bit then it goes away. If it comes back I may try some lube on the rails. My Saturn LW200 has exactly the same problem, lube does it there too (maybe I need to lose a few lbs...). Offline | Someone posted a fix for this earlier. I followed the instructions and it worked for me (thanks to the poster). It involved taking the seat out and lubing everything that moves. And interestingly also lubing the cable ties on the seatbelt pretensioner. I have not had a squeak since. Greg |

Offline | squeaky seat change I have the squeak disease but not as bad a some. The MINI dealer here (Georgia) said that BMW are aware of the problems and are changing the seats and I am on the list for a new seat. You might want to check with your local dealer on this |

Offline | Grrr, I thought I had managed to get a Cooper without squeaky seats, unfortunately this is not the case. Booked the car in on Wednesday and they stripped the seat down, lubed everything up and put insulation tape in. Driving down the road the following day, what happens??? You guessed it "Squeak Squeak", everytime I go round a bend or over a bump. The problem is, I don't know of any official fix. I'm fed up with being incovenienced, I took the day off to take it in and if anything it's worse than it was before. At least last time I could solve it for a while by raising and lowering the seats. The problem is, they always want to have a muck around with my motor first. If I said "I think it needs replacement bases" they would just say "Well bring it in, we'll take a look". Then I'd bring it in and they'd probably say "Yea, we need to order some new parts so you'll have to come back to have them fitted" It's starting to get on my nerves. The only thing that is keeping me sane is the fact that my mates Audi S3 had exactly the same problem with seats and it took them 3 attempts to fix that. Was a broken piece of plastic if I remember. | Nice TTs......... | My seats were fine, I couldnt undrestand what the fuss was all about for a while........recently, it sounds as if a family of demented chipmonks have moved into residence under both seats, even when my wife drives the MINI, and shes just over 8 and a half stone, the squeeking is still present ! ![]() ![]() Global Moderator |

| MINI2 Master | See this thread on a DIY fix, or perhaps print it out and take it to your service centre :http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...&threadid=2744 My seat is currently at the mildly annoying stage. I rarely hear it and when I do, adjusting the seat up and down, back and forth seems to fix it which implies, to my non-mechanical mind, a lubrication problem. Perhaps I'll try sticking some lube under there without resorting to full removal of the seat as mentioned above. I haven't asked my dealer to do anything about it just yet (I am pleased that the last attempt at getting the trim to stay on the back of the driver's seat has worked so far). My Saturn does the same thing and my Saturn dealer fixed it, mostly, by lubing the rails; it still squeaks once in a while (about like my MINI does now). They relube it every time I bring 'er in for an oil change. Harry MINI Cooper Cabrio: now the car with go cart handling really feels like an open go cart! Offline | Thanks for the link. I thought that this was what the engineer did on my car, he said that he had lubed everything that moved. I'll ring the garage next week. Offline | hi Afetr a conversation with a guy from the oxford plant i have it on good authority that some NEW seats are comming out very soon...poss early 2003? I am to belive that there will be a new bearing type of hinge/pivot point on them so it will be totally different to how they are built now with just the big old fashioned rover style seat back hinge ( this is where the most of the noise is comming from i belive) i too have cured the seat rattles after following a report pointing out all the points where a special lubricant is to be applied.. hope this helps.. |

Offline | Look for my new thread and poll about this issue. Jen Schuelke at MINIUSA actually tells me mine is the first complaint she's heard about squeaky seats. Offline | I spoke to my dealer today, he was saying that they've had quite a few people with squeaky seats. I've booked it in for next Tuesday. He says that the majority of people just have seats which weren't properly lubricated in the factory, although in some cases it is a spring on the back hinge that breaks and causes extra pressure on the rest of the seat. Still we'll see if they can solve it second time around.
