![]() The Muffin Man | HELP..at the end of my tether :( OK, so most of yhou have probably seen the thread on my recent gearbox problems, my airbag light problems and PAS problems Well, now that my MINI is on its 3rd gearbox my problems are now the PAS and airbag light. Priority now being the powersteering pump problems as its just cut out on me on the motorway Im getting annoyed now that so much is going wrong. Just to relist, the car has had 3 gearboxes and its only done 77K Miles, there is the common problem of the airbag light being on, and the powersteering pump - which was originally only cutting out at parking speeds - has now cut out at motorway speeds ![]() So, cars out of warranty but thought its got to be worth a try to speak to MINI. Dealership passed me onto MINI CS to which I was told that if the faults are manufacturing faults and not wear/tear/self inflicted then something "may" be able to be done. However, they said there will be a charge to have the car diagnosed at the dealership. This is all well and done if I am guaranteed to get the car sorted as good will, but there is no guaratee and i could just be forking out more money on top of the £900 of last week for the new gearbox ![]() Waiting for a call back from the dealerships service department to discuss with them if there is any way around this but i'm not hopeful. I cant afford a brand new pump from BMW especially after last weeks bill, and I cant afford to trade in the car anymore. I am at the end of my tether, love the car but completely stuck as to what I should do for the best ![]() |

Offline | When the pump starts to go it does some weird things in the elictrics, but I've never heard of just an airbag light. We have used pumps if you get stuck. Good luck with BMW Slicks 11.77@115.92mph Street tyres 12.162 @ 119.02 It's not how much you spend but how well you spend it |

![]() The Muffin Man | The airbag light is a seperate problem which is obviously likely to be the wiring harness or something under the seat. ![]() The pump does often do wierd things with the electrics. The speedo shudders and the trip resets. And the fuel gauge will sometimes stick. These electrical problems sometimes occur even when the power steering is still in operation and the pumps still go. Other times, the pump fails and then the electrics go dodgy. What I do find is that now and again when the PAS fails, I can just sit there and leave the wheel in the position where it failed, and after about 30 seconds the whine from the pump starts to come back until it is back sounding normal again, consequently bringing the steering back to normal. Is there any way at all to just replace the control box and not the pump or is it all one unit? I think I have phoned you at 1320 for a price on a pump before. Think I was quoted £50 inc VAT but this came with no warranty. If I was to purchase one of these recycled pumps is there anyway you could tell me what age of car it was from? As I would want to buy one from an 04 plate onwards. Thanks for your help ![]() Dan |
