Dealership messed up service indicator - possible fix?

Hi all,
Just had an unscheduled oil service at my dealership on my newly purchased S in order to start with a clean slate.
Despite being asked not to touch the service indicator the tech reset it and now rather than showing the distance to an Inspection 1 service (as it had been) it's showing the next service as an oil service.

They've told me that nothing can be done to rectify this, but as the same tech tried to tell me it's impossible to program the key so that the central locking works in 2 stages (1st click drivers door, 2nd click passenger door and boot - funny that I have this on my Cooper) I don't trust him at all.

Any help would be appreciated, it's really annoying that I'll now have to guess when the Inspection 1 service is needed.

Cheers, Geoff.

I noticed that mine had changed in wording yesterday... I had a service and the lead up to it, it said oil service... now it says inspection 25,000....pretty nifty

I have that setting too on my central locking... 1st click drivers door, 2nd every other door... weird!

If the world didn't suck we'd all fall off!

AFAIK all they have to do is reset the service indicator until they get back to the service you should be on. It's only an indicator after all. So they need to reset the oil service, will show distance to inspection II, reset inspection II and will show distance to oil service, reset oil service to show distance to inspection I. As you've just had the oil service then you will have the full distance to go for the Inspection I

It was acceptable in the 80's

Hi,
I thought as much, the service department at my dealership has turned into a complete joke.

Oh well, nice while it lasted, I think I'll give the dealership that originally supplied my new S a shot - they are way closer to me as well.

Cheers, Geoff.

I have an even stranger one. My R56MCS had its first service at 24000 miles. When it came back it showed 1000 miles to next service when cold and 6000 miles to service when cold. Dealer perplexed and said it must be tyres or brakes so come back when down to 0 miles and we will do what is required but he noted 'discs and pads look ok to me'. Now down after over 2500 extra miles to 600 miles when cold and 4000 miles when hot! Next 10 days will see about another 1500 miles so I'd better book it in soon! Any suggestions?
