Click Click on full lock?

Hi all just wondeering if anyone has any ideas on a fault...

On full lock or near full lock I get a metalic click/clunk sound .
Does not happen when the wheels are straight.
Only happens under acceleraion

Seems to be no play on the wheel holing it at 3 and 9 o clock poss.

Any Ideas please?

You need a new CV joint on the side that is clicking.

It was acceptable in the 80's

Replacement of CV joints is detailed in the Haynes MINI manual if you want to try it and is rated as "fairly difficult, suitable for competent DIY mechanic" which I would agree is about right. You also need access to a good mechanics tool kit.

Generally cv joints are sold as a complete driveshaft assembly, or you may be able to get yours reconditioned. As for installation, it is a DIY job if you are mechanically competent, otherwise go to a specialist.

Cant get CV joints on there own need new drivehsaft and CV joint together. £298 Inc Vat £110 Fitting .

done driveshafts many a time on my old 106. have to get driveshafts, hub nuts and also some gearbox oil. will probably need a breaker bar, and a torque wrench, plus a balljoint splitter.

then it's all a messy bit of fun :P

has anyone done one of these on the mini? will i loose all the fluid when i take out the drive shaft? or can i just take the cv joint part from the drive shaft assembly that i buy from BMW and just use that?
