most likely your pump gone, apparently its a common problem, isnt a difficult job to replace, they did an airtice on it in the july edition of MODERN MINI magasine if u get that??
The mag states that a new pump from BMW is £375 but minimatt.co.uk stocks secondhand ones for £175 but his are only guaranteed for 3 months. But labour charges arent stated but it shudnt be alot as its apparently fairly straight forward job, of course the labour charges will vary with who you get to do it.

Hope this helps

You should still be able to get this done under warranty. It's a common fault. As Specky says, it's probably the power steering pump.

Get your dealer to give you a price and to do a goodwill warranty claim through BMW. If you've had it serviced regularly and especially if your mileage is low you should get all or most of it paid. If they come back with something lame like 50% off parts, ask them to improve on it.

I got 20% off parts (BMW) and 20% off labour (dealer), bringing it to £377. I was over a year out of warranty and had 77000 miles on the clock. That was to replace the pump and wiring loom. You shouldn't have to pay anywhere near this if you're just out of warranty.

I have a 2004 Cooper with 24 k on , full BMWSH warranty ran our 6 months ago, Local BMW dealer has diagnosed p/s pump failure and loom ( like yours,) put in a claim to BMW and guess what ?.............no monies offered at all !!............now gone straight to BMW myself to try again.............this is outrageous !.....excuse given was that we bought the car from a non BMW dealer ( although he only had to car for a week and never appears on the V5 ).BMW service 4 weeks ago !!...............how did you "word " your request, was it a local dealer to Gloucester as I live in Cheltenham,.............appreciate any advise..................Gary

16/06/08.......BMW customer services..................NO NO.Now taking it through official legal chanels, court if necessary................................3 1/2 years old, 24k, full history, power steering goes on a prestige brand car........and nothing !..................outrageous ........!
