Head Light Flickering?

Hi Everybody!

On the way home from work today I notice that one of my xenons was flickering, and a couple of times it turned off completely, but came back on straight away. Is this a sign that the bulb is blown or is it a loose connection somehwhere?

Cheers,

jamie

Hi Jamie...

Funny that, last night mine did exactly the same thing, except that this morning when I came to drive it, the drivers side didn't work at all. I was in London driving back to Lincoln, so its a decent trip, thought that on the way back it might jiggle itself back into place, but no luck.
Parked the car up in the garage, and hey presto after a while it was working as per normal.

I've heard the odd rumor that the ignitors may not like the cold?!?!? Seems a bit odd to me. I rang the dealer to see if there was any known problem, and the couldn't recall one issue.

I personally believe that the transformer/ignition pack or control pack as BMW call it for the MINI is not 100% bullet proof. I've had the car since new in 2003 and it has happened approximately 5 times in that period. All, within the last 2 years.

The reply doesn't really help your specific problem, but it makes me believe there must be a manufacturers defect with the units.

Cheers

James

I cant help either, but the same thing. Right hand xenon had a flickering. Like someone was tipping water down it if you know what I mean. It looked more like it was loose than flickering. I would contact my dealer, but I have just come back from a gearbox change, and second steering column change. . . . . I am getting sick of 1 series loan cars lol (not that I am ungrateful) - But I keep wanting one

But I always love the mini when I get it back.

I had that problem on my old S and it was the ignitors that were the problem - my dealer replaced them under warranty, and then had the car back in a few weeks later to replace both headlights for peace of mind! I was dead chuffed!
