Offline | Weirdly behaving windows Hi - can anyone help me with what might be wrong with my 02 Mini Cooper? The alarm went off at 5am on Sunday morning, for no apparent reason. I unlocked it with the key fob, locked it again with the key fob and all was fine. At 4.40am on Monday morning (today) the alarm went off again - I did the same thing, and it didn't do it again. But when I drove the car for the second time today, all of a sudden the driver window started to move up & down, like it does when you open the door to get in/out and then close the door - the window moves down slightly & then up to close. It was doing that whilst I was driving along, almost continually. I got to work and parked the car, stopped the engine - windows still doing the same thing. Took the key out of the ignition - windows still doing it. Got out of the car - windows still doing it. Locked the car and of course the alarm went off - so at least that probably explains why the alarm went off before. When I unlocked it with the key and locked it again, the windows stopped moving, and now haven't done it since (now 5 hours later), and I have unlocked, opened and locked the car a couple of times since. There is no sign of any water in the footwell, and the window works properly. I can't find any information on resetting the windows in the user manual, as some people here have mentioned, but I opened the window, closed it and then held the toggle up for 10 secs. Does anyone have any idea what caused this? Thanks |

| MINI2 Regular | If you search on the faults and fixes threads, I had this problem and mine was water had got into the body module and had to be replaced. Fortunately it was still under warranty so didnt cost me, but it would have been £322 Some good tips on here if you do a search. It seems to be a very common problem ![]() |

Offline | probably a faulty BCU (body control unit) ... the are suseptible to water ingress as the early cars had poor seals. May not be this but its a possibility. They were so sensitive that there does not need to be water in the car, just damp in the unit. |

Offline | What he said ^^^ ![]() Hope you get it sorted.....maybe putting the heater on the footwell on hot for your drive home and if its not raining leave the windows open a little bit to see if that drys it out. But then you probably wouldnt know if it never does it again. |

| MINI2 Newbie | I was shown how to reset the windows on my 2005 convertible - toggle window down, hold down for at least 3 secs when window fully down, then toggle window up, and hold up for min 3 secs when fully closed. It makes the one-touch window-down feature work again. Allegedly ![]() |

| MINI2 Newbie | Hello! Today morning I had the same problem... On my way to work, passenger window moved up & down - it happened 2-3 times during 15 minutes ride. I noticed or it may by just a coinsidence, that it happened on rapid turns - mainly to the right..... My MINI has no alarm. Now, when it's parked - it's not happening. I presume it might by problem with water getting into the body module or maybe just the fuse? I'll see if it continues on my way back home..... .... yep - it happened again. I don't know if it's because of water ingress or some electrical failure. The windows goes crazy for some 0,5 second, like it prevents itself from opening...goes dwon for 0,5 cm and then instantly up. It happens once a while or in series.... Any ideas?
