Australia Under Door Courtesy Lights.

I have a 2004 Cooper S RHD model. The under door courtesy light on the passenger side (left hand door) works fine, however on the driver's side, the light does not work.
I removed the light and checked the globe, and it appeared fine. I put it back in and it still did not work.
On further examination I noticed there were no wires running to the globe!
I felt around as best I could but could not find the wires.
Is this "light" merely for show, or should it actually work.
Is this one of these little quirks that are a result of the european vehicles sent to Australia? (Such as the indicator stalk on the lhs of the steering wheel compared to all local vehicles)

Does it look like I have to pull the door apart to see if the wires are there so it can be reconnected?

Talking

Took the door panel off, and the wires were coiled up in there, so it is now fixed.
Thanks.
