United-Kingdom Electric Window 'Dropping' After locking.

Bought me cooper s 5 weeks back - been in the dalership for over 4 weeks with other problems - got it back Friday night.

This morning went to car saw the window had ' dropped' down a good two inches from where it should be on the driver side door - allowing the north easts finest wind and rain to enter - making the driver side of the car absolutly soaking - seat, wheel, handbrake - the lot. Before i had it the window wasnt working - but was promised it would be fixed to the MINI COOPER SUNDERLAND's high standards (which i have found out are not very high at all).

Anyone else had this problem - or have i as ive thought from day two - been sold an absolute dud of a motor?

Cheers

I have heard that a bad battery (or one that is heading that way) will sometimes appear in the form of electrical gremlins. What color is in the window of the battery? If it is black, get a replacement.

As well as the possible battery issue, damp / wet connectors on the Body Control Unit can also cause issues like this, but the irony of that is, a little bit of damp / water can cause electrical problems, windows included, causing the windows to open as has happened to you, opening your MINI to the elements which can worsen the problem (the BCU is located in the drivers side foot-well behind the kick panel ).

With what has happened, you'll need to check for water ingress in-to the electrical connectors & dry it out anyway even if that was the original cause of the fault or not, and those carpets can seem dry on top as they seem to have a water proof barrier, but they are padded with foam underneath and can be absolutely soaking especially with what has happened too you, I have seen 1-2 inches of water in the foot-well in the past (the Body Control Unit lower plugs totally submerged in water ).

Water in the electrical system causing shorts can drain a battery of charge also, so if whatever it was that caused the fault in the 1st place isn't sorted out or the water from the open window isn't dried out properly and any leaks cured you could be going around in circles .

On the later models a lot of the earlier water leak issues where addressed that were found on earlier models (through various methods).

Mine's the one on the left.
