Hi,

My car's been making this very distinct squeak when i turn the steering wheel all the way to the left or right. I'm not talking about the electric noise (i.e. weeeeee). It literally sounds like I'm opening a door with rusted hinges. It started off as just when I turn the wheel all the way to the left or right but now I don't need to turn as much to hear the noise.

Also when I start my car, there's the similar squeak/gear grinding noise almost 1 second after turning the keys. I'm wondering if these two are related.

I haven't changed my oil in a long time and I know I have to get it changed very soon. I'm planning on doing that next week. Could it be because of the engine oil?

Just want to know what you guys may think the problem is so I can tell the non-dealer mechanic.
