road noise from wheels - please help?

Hi all

I have a 2005 cooper s automatic and am getting a drumming noise coming from the front end of the car. When on a smooth road I can hear a dull drumming from the front wheels. It is an intermitent (sp?) noise that is a low vibrating sound. It seems worse when i brake too but at high speeds it is not noticable.

Is it the balance of the wheels? My brother mentioned the bearings but he has no real idea to be honest.

Any suggestions would be welcomed before I take it to the garage.

Thankyou in advance

M

Ps tyres are dunlops on bullit wheels with even wear.

Yeah it sounds like a possible wheel bearing wearing out. I had a similar thing at the back of my car and have recently had the bearing replaced under warranty

The other option is the tyres themselves. Dunlops can make alot of road noise. I wouldnt be surprised if they just rotated the tyres on the rims.

Everyone else is lying to you. stop giving out duff advice people!

From your description it could well be the bearings.

Take things easy until you have a diagnosis as the bearings could well seize. And then £££!
