Offline | power steering problem Hello. New to this but I have been reading the forums and I am one of those who has problem with power steering failure!!! Took my 2002 MCS to the dealer for a routine oil service. This was back in February this year. Tried to book it in earlier but they were fully booked. Thought nothing might go wrong with the car as bought it from a dealer a year earlier with a year warranty. When I went to collect the car, was told there was a slight leak on the power steering (rack to pump) and was told i need not to worry about the leak. Thought nothing of it until about a month ago when I tried to park and had a complete power steering failure! It has happened a few times since. Managed to get the car booked in and looked at yesterday and am waiting to see if BMW will give me goodwill of some sort. I was told that the motor is now going off! Thing is, the car was out of warranty 9 days when i took it in back in February and has only done 41,000miles. Will update of the outcome for this. |

Offline | Follow the advice in the main power steering thread and you should get some goodwill from BMW about this known issue as have many others. I don't think they were right to advise you to ignore the small leak as such things normally just get worse and more expensive. Good luck and let us know how you get on. Welcome also to MINI2 ![]() |

Offline | Got a phone call from the local mini dealer today. As a gesture of goodwill, they have agreed to cover the cost for the power steering pump and the pipes leak. This will be FOC for the parts but i have to pay for the labour costs. This will be around £170!!! Is this good enough or should i ask them to get back to mini because from what i have read from the previous forums, they would normally go 50-50. Have booked the car in to have it done for next Friday. Maybe I should wait until its done and then write to mini to see if they would go 50-50? I asked how much the cost for the parts and was told its £700!!! I suppose paying £170 is better than having to fork out the whole cost.. |

Offline | This sounds like a reasonable offer to me for a 2002 MINI with 41,000 miles, quite a few people in a similar position have also settled for parts FOC and just paid the labour. I think the better deals have normally been for newer or very low mileage cars? |
