Offline | Problem with Battery (Cutting out on turn over) Afternoon all, im having a bad day i tell you ![]() Unfortunatley today, it seems my battery connetions are playing up. I was driving down a road pulled up, to let a go pass a parked car in front of me. When i pulled away after a minute or so, the car felt like a boat! Soon realised that the Power Steering had failed! Managed to pull up safely luckily, however i then proceeded to close the top (assuming some sort of failure was going to occur)... the roof proceeded to close and stopped half way! Then i turned the engine off, and guess what... turned over.. nothing.. absolute dead. No Temp, no starter motor, no nothing. At this point (blocking traffic) i was pretty concerned. The boot of course was locked, as no power feed in the car. Pulled back the seats, checked connections and all seemed OK. Now here comes a fix of sorts... i pushed on the small black box next to the POSITIVE connection. I could now hear the cars electronics booting up, and the car then started OK. The car since has not developd any faults whilst driving. Instead if you leave the car around 30 minutes, and return.. open the car.. and then turn it over.. the same problem occurs. Again the same solution, push on the black box near the positive cable and it starts again. I have checked the battery and it seems fully charged.. it will open/close the softop after being on for about a minute.. a dead battery would not do that? Now im thinking of solutions/fixes for it, i would assume:
Thanks for any advice, its much appreciated. Sig Coming Soon.. |

Offline | Well, its been fixed (hopefully, since had no problems). When we bought the car they replaced the battery, and not with a BMW one. OK so not a fault as such, but the mechanic who fitted it, did not correctly place the positive connector NOR tighten the bolt holding the connector. This was no high street garage either, this was a Volvo Stratstone Dealership in Stafford. Therefore the connection was severed whilst driving, which of course made the power steering and then the car die. Thats also why i could start the car by pushing on the connector. Overall a 10 minute fix BUT the idoit who installed the battery could have potentially made a dangerous accident. Sig Coming Soon.. |
