Paint Under Bonnet - Comes Off

gave under the bonnet a bit of a tidy up this evening

when drying it off with an old chamois bits of red paint came off

heres a pic of it

Why did that happen?

Has it happened to anyone else before?

Same things happened to mine where some idiot in the garage i bought it from steam cleaned under the bonnet. It may be because the waterborne basecoat has not been laquered. It`s a bit of a ***** though .

The paint under the bonnet is only a base coat (Not lacquered) as stated in the previous post, so it's not as good / hard-wearin' as the outer coat which is lacquered, I know the base can come off if it's rubbed over with white spirits which isn't as harsh as thinners (thinners takes it down to the primer / rust protection very quickly), some of those cleaning agent's can be quite harsh these days , especially if you're not used to using them (each valeter etc... etc... will have his own brand, that he swears by for whatever reason), so be careful whatever you're using .

Mine's the one on the left.
