Offline | 'drumming' noise at idle & on the move I know there are countless threads on here concerned with strange noises that come and go with the first generation Mini but my late 2004 MCS has recently started making the most irritating sound from behind the dash' or 'under the bonnet' which is noticeable all the time but infuriating at idle. I struggle to describe the noise but it is like a rhythmic 'drumming' and interestingly it gets worse when I switch the engine off and when the idle speed drops a little (my idling speed is all over the place at the moment). All I know is it was not doing this 200 miles ago and now it does it every journey which is very embarrassing if you have a passenger.... Any suggestions anyone? I have the car booked in on May 21st to have the dodgy idle looked at and have mentioned this strange noise to them as well. I expect to get thoroughly fobbed off but my cherished warranty will be tested to the max..... Cheers, DrD |

Offline | Progress report... I checked my car today and there is a lot of what looks like oil around the engine mount at the pulley end of the engine. I assume this is not good (!) and that the hydraulic mount has failed. Is this a common failing with a late 2004 MCS? I've only done 27k miles and am not impressed with this type of fault on a 'nearly new' cherished car... ![]() I knew I should have bought the 2004 Lexus IS200 Sport for the same money....... DrD |

Offline | Going to BMW - failed engine mount It looks like the hydraulic engine mount has failed on my 2004 MCS. It goes into the dealer next week to (hopefully!) get sorted out. I'm slightly worried as the knocking or 'drumming' sound seems to have disappeared. Maybe it was not related to the obviously failing engine mount..? Any suggestions whether I should drive the car in this state??? ![]() |
