| MINI2 Regular | engine sounds like a ford transit van basically, started the car yesterday morning and instead if the engine purring, it sounded like an old ford transit van, it's hard to describe the sound, just sounds like an old van. idle's not so good. car still pullls well. sound not related to engaging the clutch or accelerating or slowing down. The radiator fan also stays on after i switch off the car - it doesn't switch off unless i put the key back in the ignition and turn it on and off again although sometimes this doesn't work. the temp guage is in the normal range. no oil leaks no coolant leaks. levels are all normal. spark plugs, coolant change oil change done 6000 miles ago. car is due a belt change. ?thermostat???? any thoughts? sy dr. blaze bbr 250 Last edited by sayanthan : May 9th, 2008 at 09:48 AM. Offline | You may be able to isolate the noise by putting a long screwdriver to your ear,and prodding around various parts of the engine(be carefull to avoid rotating parts with the driver) The outside temp is warm for a change and the fan may well run on a bit longer than usual-monitor the coolant levels in the first instance. be careful with the driver!!! dont want to see headline news of MINI2 member with screwdriver imbedded in ear!!! |

Offline | Mine too ! Hi, My Cooper S Works sounds like a Transit Van too, but only when I go round roundabouts !!! Noise can start for no reason and seems to stop when you rev the engine hard in neutral. I have no performance problems (burnt off a Golf GTi today, didn't need 6th !) Noise seems to be really random and it definately coming from the block. All coolant levels are ok too, does not need a service for another 4k. Seems to get worse when I turn right - but it is nothing to do with wheels, tyres or suspension. checked the exhaust too just in case - all pukka. Sounds as tho there is something catching in the engine bay / block ir something is loose - but I cannot for the life of me tell what - HELP it's now driving me mad ! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
